Legislators pay tribute to three eminent Ugandans

Parliament has paid tribute to the former cultural leader of the Bamasaaba, Late Bob Mushikori, the founder and leader of Faith of Unity church, late Desto Owobushobozi Bisaka, and former Member of the Legislative Council, Hon. Sarah Ntiro Nyendwoha.
In a sitting chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, the motions to honour the three eminent Ugandans were moved by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Gen Moses Ali on Wednesday, 10 February 2021.
Members of Parliament appreciated the roles played by the three senior citizens.
Gen. Ali described Ntiro as an advocate for equal pay.
"She broke the chain of inequality in pay when she refused to accept less pay for what she was working for and yet her male counterparts were receiving more," he said.
Ntiro had an illustrious career, serving in various capacities both in the public and private sector in Uganda.

The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Betty Aol Ocan said Ntiro grew up at a time when the girl child experienced hurdles in accessing education coupled with the inequality between women and men.
"As much as she was not allowed to attend mathematics class, she was the first woman university graduate in East and Central Africa. She was a role model to the young generation who still emulate her to this day," Aol Ocan said.

Masindi Woman MP, Hon. Jalia Bintu said that Hon. Ntiro was, ‘the true definition of woman emancipation and equality in Uganda’.
"While she taught at Gayaza High School, she rejected her pay for a whole year when she realised that her male counterparts were to get more than her. This prompted her to move a Private Members Bill in the LEGCO for equal pay for all," Bintu said.

In the tribute to the late Bob Mushikori, Mbale Municipality MP, Hon. Jack Wamanga Wamai said he was a unifying factor to the Bamasaaba community in the diaspora.
"He gathered the Bamasaba in Toronto, Canada to try and look at the issues of Bamasaba and Uganda as a whole. He licensed his courtyard as a cultural ground for circumcision which showed his love for his culture and country," Wamanga Wamai said.

While paying tribute to Bisaka, Buyaga West MP, Hon. Barnabas Tinkasiimire said the Owobushobozi encouraged his followers to adhere to Government programmes and always work hard.
"He helped people understand the Creator. He taught me in my catechism classes and that is why I have such great faith., said Tinkasiimire.
The late Dr. Sarah Nitiro died on 22 October 2018 at Mengo Hospital; late Soul Kipiro died on 04 January 2021 at his Palace in Mbale and Owobushobozi Bisaka died on 23 January 2021 at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
