Speaker calls for better hygiene practices

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has urged citizens to improve on their hygiene in order to avert related illnesses.

Speaking at the opening of Mwitanzige Kyabusinge Health Centre III on Friday, 13 December, 2019 in Kakumiro District, the Speaker emphasised that people should pay attention to sanitation standards in their homes like safe drinking water and toilets.

"Let us make sure that we boil all the water we drink and have a toilet that is clean in every homestead; poor disposal of human waste is the major reason cholera still disturbs us," she said.

Kadaga also urged expectant mothers to go to the health centre for antenatal check-ups at least eight times in the course of their pregnancy.

"Mothers, utilise this health facility to ensure that you give up birth to healthy babies and have flawless pregnancies," Kadaga added.

The Speaker  called upon men to be faithful to their partners as a way of curbing sexual transmission of diseases.

The construction of the health centre was an initiative of  the Commissioner of Parliament and area MP, Hon. Robina Nabbanja.

Nabbanja expressed her gratitude for the support of Parliament and also asked the people of Kakumiro to utilise the health centre for the good of their health.

The Commissioner of Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Patrick Tusiime said that the government will fully support the health centre with staff and logistics starting in the next financial year .
