Parliament holds prayers ahead of Commonwealth meeting

Parliament has held special prayers for a successful 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) that Uganda will host from 22 to 29 September 2019.
Speaker Rebecca Kadaga joined staff of Parliament on Wednesday, 11 September 2019 to pray for the nation’s security as Uganda prepares to host the conference it last held in 1967.

The Anglican Parliamentary Chaplain, Rev Christine Shimanya who led prayers said that since the conference is marketing the country, the church is obliged to dedicate time and pray for the meeting.

“We think this is one of our answered prayers that Uganda is recognised by the entire world to host this event; so it is important that we pray for safety of people who are travelling and guests who will visit our tourism sites,” Shimanya said.
Shimanya added that Ugandans should be expectant of CPC as it exposes Uganda to the entire world, an opportunity she termed as golden.
“This conference is bringing out the image of Uganda to the entire world, all people will be looking at this country; we have an opportunity to expose our resources and display whatever we have to the entire world,” she said.

The Speaker commended the organising committee for the good work done thus far.
“We have come a long way; from the time of mobilising resources, then setting up committees; I think God has been walking with us; we are grateful to Him that after 52 years, we are able to bring the world together again in Uganda,” Kadaga said.
