11th Parliament starts, MPs take oath

The 11th Parliament of Uganda commences today, Monday 17 May 2021, with the swearing-in of new Members. This is the 11th Parliament of Uganda since the country attained independence in October 1962. Today, about 150 Members-elect are scheduled to swear-in or take the oath of allegiance and the oath of Member of Parliament.

The oath of allegiance and the oath of Member of Parliament are provided for in Article 81 (4) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

Article 81(4) of the Constitution says: Every person elected to Parliament shall take and subscribe the oath of allegiance and the oath of member of Parliament specified in the Fourth Schedule to this Constitution.
