Kadaga commends MTN for lighting up Kamuli schools

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has commended telecom company, MTN Uganda for its continued corporate social responsibility (CSR) drives executed across the country.

While launching the ‘Light up a village’ initiative by MTN at Kiswa Primary School, Kadaga said that improving lighting in the classrooms would facilitate better grades from students in Kamuli district.

“I am grateful to MTN for their continued cooperation with Busoga region. The contribution of solar panels to 30 schools will improve the lives in the community and children in Busoga will be given an opportunity to compete favourably with other schools,” she said.

Kadaga cautioned the beneficiary schools to take care of the solar panels and utilise them to promote better performance with more first grades in Kamuli District.

Enid Edroma, the General Manager, Corporate Services at MTN Uganda said their main focus was to uplift the lives of the communities with improved education, health care services and youth empowerment.

“Light up a village in partnership with Phoenix Power International, rolled out our first Busoga region initiative in Buvuma where we lit up nine schools and two health centres. We also lit up the 200 resettlement homes of  people affected by mudslides last year, she said adding that, ’today, we are giving solar panels to 30 schools in the hope that future of the young children will be brighter’..

On the same day, Kadaga handed over iron sheets to residents of Buyende who were affected by landslides in 2018. The materials were donated by the Office of the Prime Minister.
