Uganda beats Tanzania in netball and football

Parliament of Uganda started strong beating Tanzania in both football and netball on the first day of the East African Community Inter Parliamentary Games.

The 9th edition of the Games played under the theme “Enhancing cooperation between member states”, officially commenced in Bujumbura, Burundi on Sunday 2 December 2018. The annual games bring together the legislatures of EAC Partner States of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda and the East African Legislative Assembly. Rwanda has stayed away from this year’s games.

Uganda beat Tanzania 34 -16 in netball and 2 – 1 in football. The double victory makes Uganda the first team to win two games.

The netball team Manager, Hon. Jalia Bintu Lukumu (NRM, Masindi district) attributed the win to proper training in Uganda.

“We had good training from facilitators in Uganda; and the training games carried out between local teams and our team made us fully prepared,” she said.

She thanked fellow MPs and staff for putting up a formidable fight that made them emerge winners in their first game.

The football captain, Hon Allan Ssewanyana (DP, Makindye West), thanked their coaches for the strategies and good team selection that saw them beat their biggest rivals in football.

In volleyball, however, Uganda lost to Tanzania 3 – 1.

Hon Abbas Agaba (NRM, Kitagwenda) blamed their loss to poor coordination among players. He promised to make it right in order to stay in the competition.

Parliament of Uganda is defending champions, having won the competitions in Dare-slam, Tanzania.
