Speaker Kadaga applauds Jinja-Shenyang cities cooperation

The Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga has praised the Chinese city of Shenyang for committing to support the development of Jinja City.
Kadaga made these remarks after witnessing the signing of a cooperation agreement by the mayors of the two cities on Monday, 26 October 2020. The signing ceremony took place at Parliament.
The development is a brain child of the Busoga Consortium where the Speaker os is the patron.
Kadaga said that the long awaited cooperation of the two cities was crucial to the mutual development of both cities.
“The cooperation established today is a manifestation of deep diplomatic relations between the two countries. We have not forgotten that China was the first country to establish relations with Uganda after independence,” she said.
Kadaga added that the cooperation is a product of the first local government China-Africa development and the desire is to promote all round exchanges between the two countries.
Titus Kisambira, Mayor of Jinja City said that the two cities and Busoga Region at large are going to benefit from the relationship.
“We are optimistic that the twinning will usher in an era of mutual trust and common values between the peoples of China and Uganda, he said adding that, ‘we pledge to play our part to actualize the objectives of this agreement’.
Kisambira added that, ‘in terms of trade and economy, we have profiled the economic situation and we are ready for the value addition for the market in the area of agriculture’.   
The Mayor of Shenyang, Jiang Youwei said that it was exciting to finally witness what the two cities have been working towards for a while.
“We have taken interest in education, health, sport and people to people exchange, culture and public health. We have gained a lot over the years. The official establishment will surely open a new chapter in the already very good relation that we have,” Youwei said.

 
The Ambassador of China to Uganda, Zheng ZhuQiang said that he is honoured to witness the friendship between two cities, being sealed.
“October is a special month for both countries since China and Uganda both obtained independence on 01st and 09th October respectively. They also share a lot like industralisation, trade and commerce since the Shenyang community is already have business in Uganda at Kapeeka industrial park,” he said.
Minister for Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi said the decentralization policy has enabled Uganda launch 10 cities and Jinja city hardly made four months has taken bold steps to forge local and international partnerships.
“The Ministry of Local Government will support the twinning of cities for economic cooperation, cultural exchange, improving service delivery, environment protection, natural resource development and the friendship of both countries,” he said.
