Speaker inspects Kasolwe stock farm works

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has commended the contractors of the construction and upgrading of Kasolwe Livestock Farm in Kamuli district.
“Now I can see there is some life; some time back you could come here and it was just a bush,” said Kadaga.
Kadaga added that while trying to lobby for funds and market the proposal, she did not expect that Kasolwe would become a model livestock farm at international standards.
The Speaker thanked all stakeholders who provided the money for the project that will change the lives of the people in the area. Last year, the livestock interventions for Busoga region were launched by the the Speaker.
The function was attended by His Royal Highness Nadiope Gabula VI the King of Busoga, Hon. Esther Mbayo the Minister of the Presidency, Dr. Charles Lagu the Executive Director of the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Databank (NAGRC&DB) and Dr Juliet Sentumbwe the Director for Animal Resources.
The initiatives currently taking place through the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Databank (NAGRC&DB) which is the livestock sub-sector agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries include a ranch, construction of a cattle dip and spray race.
Construction of a hay barn to improve cattle weight from the average 150kgs to more than 350kgs per animal is also ongoing and will also be used for demonstration purposes where farmers in Busoga and surrounding areas will learn better approaches of animal husbandry.
The project also sees the construction of four valley dams and six valley tanks. In order to supplement ongoing livestock water supply initiatives in Busoga, the project will support the construction and rehabilitation of livestock watering facilities with a capacity of at least 300,000 cubic metres of water per day.
