Kadaga honoured for advocacy of youth matters

The Duke of Edinburg International Awards Programme has honoured the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, for her work in advocating for youth related matters.
Led by the Secretary General, John May, the Duke of Edinburg International Awards team recognized Kadaga’s work in youth advocacy saying it has been influential in fundraising for the programme which currently benefits over 30,000 youths in Uganda annually.
“Even as we are preparing for the regional conference next year, having you as patron has made our fundraising efforts much easier,” said Allen Ssebugwawo, the acting chairperson board of trustees, Duke of Edinburg’s International Awards Uganda.    
John May said that with Kadaga’s leadership, Ugandan youth on the programme have made  progress that has granted Uganda the right to host the competitive International Gold Conference in 2020.
“I am really pleased by the tremendous work that young people are doing in Uganda. We are going to bring some of the young leaders to Kampala and see the impact of great work in Uganda as a role model for the rest of the world,” May said.
Kadaga said that the programme is timelygiven the high unemployment levels in the country.
“The message of Duke of Edinburg Awards is important because we live in a world where parents are busy; you find children are on their own but activities like these do assist to instill skills in young people,” said Kadaga.

The Edinburg International Awards is a youth development programme empowering young people aged 14-24 to explore their full potential and find purpose. The programme recruits about 30,000 youths annually in Uganda.
