Oulanyah counsels doctors

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has urged doctors to find their purpose in their jobs and fulfil it.

Oulanyah while officiating at the 3rd Grande Doctors Conference and the Mungherera memorial leadership in health lecture said that there was a need to emulate the late Dr Mungherera who lived her life to the fullest.

“I’m proud to be celebrating an icon in the profession; a person who answered to her call and went ahead and did it. A person who discovered her purpose in the profession and fulfilled it, she never betrayed you,” he said.

Oulanyah added that the doctors will experience weakness from partners should never weaken your results to fulfil your own responsibility.

“Those in government are not very good partners because sometimes we let you down. This should never deter you from doing what you should,” he said.

The President Uganda Medical Society, Dr. Ekwau Obuku, said that the aim of the conference was to bring together practitioners to discuss how to improve the health sector in the country.

“We want to play the leading role in the decision space where we can transform the health sector in Uganda,”said Dr. Obuku adding “If the state has played its role to increase the budget for the health sector by increasing salaries of the doctors, then what are we giving back in terms of quality?”

The two day conference being held at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala is designed to improve the quality of care for patients.
