DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH SERVICES
The department is a multi-skilled research service designed to provide non-partisan and well-researched information for the following stakeholders:
  • Office of the Speaker
  • The Parliamentary Commission
  • Committees of Parliament
  • Individual Members of Parliament
  • Office of the Clerk to Parliament
  • Staff of Parliament

PURPOSE
To support the work of Parliament, by providing top quality research services, analysis and technical advice.
PROACTIVE RESEARCH ON TOPICAL ISSUES
The DRS is not just a reactive service, but also anticipates the research and information needs of MPs and Committees and carries out proactive research to cater for those needs.

FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Research Services has the following functions:
  1. To conduct quality research and offer technical advice to Committees, individual MPs and staff of Parliament in respect of parliamentary work;
  2. To conduct studies on new bills and policies to inform Committees and individual MPs;
  3. To provide technical briefings and advice to Committees on technical matters, such as allocation of resources, accountability and Government assurances;
  4. To support Committees in conducting investigations;
  5. To conduct monitoring and evaluation studies on government policies, programmes, laws and regulations;
  6. To conduct proactive studies to support parliamentary business;
  7. To develop and manage research databases;
  8. To collaborate and network with research institutions locally and internationally in order to advance evidence-based legislation.
