Speaker opens Parliament Science Exhibition

DSC 7054The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga this morning officially opened the Science and Technology Exhibition currently taking place in the CHOGM Gardens at Parliament.
Speaking at the function, the Speaker commended the Committee on Science and Technology for spearheading the Science Week.
The Speaker noted with disappointment that the government had neglected Ugandans who come out to invent and create things of their own. She cited an incidence four years ago where one Ugandan tried to build a plane. This issue was brought to Parliament, debated on and was further left to the Office of the Vice President to handle it with the Executive yet four years down the road nothing has been done.
Rt.Hon. Kadaga revealed another incident where Parliament resolved that a ministry of Science and Technology be put in place. This proposal was moved on to the President but up to now nothing has been done.
The Speaker commended the Chairperson of the committee, Hon. Ssemuli for chairing the most active Committee in the August House and promised to work hand in hand with them.
She further instructed the Clerk to Parliament to generate a budget for the Science and Technology Week so that it can be carried on annually.
The exhibition has attracted members of the public and a good number of exhibitors and is running from Monday 8th December to Friday  12th December 2014.
